This is an error I've occasionally experienced in recent versions of Vedit, but this is the first time I've gathered info to submit a report.

The symptom is that, while highlighting text, a window pops up with the error message "Line too long: {CONFIG, File Handling, Filetype} now set to 64 {Binary}", and Vedit locks up requiring Task Manager to close it.

The platform is a 3 GHz P4 running Win2k SP4 in 1024x768x32 bit resolution, running 32-bit Vedit 6.15.1 with word wrap display enabled and hard CR/LF disabled.

The problem can be replicated with the attached file. Scroll down so that line 789 is near the top of the window. Put the mouse pointer on line 801, highlight '[<a href="sources.shtml#brivr">BriVR</a> 2:280' and copy with Ctrl-C. Put the mouse pointer on line 789 at the beginning of '<b>Daniel Snell</b>' and Ctrl-V to paste, then type '] ' . Now go back to line 789, and as soon as you begin to highlight '2:280' the error occurs.

P.S. - I hope the HTML in this message displays properly - I had to encode the "greater than" and "less than" characters to get it to display properly in my browser.

Confirmed.

The enabled word wrap makes it difficult to replicate because the line
numbers are different. But now I found out how to do it.

I put the cursor on "Daniel Snell" and resized VEDIT's windows width
until line number 789 showed up in the status line.
Then I followed your description.

Higlighting with cursor keys was no problem, but highlighting with the
mouse locked VEDIT with the same error message.

This has not yet been addressed as of 03/22/06.

It is now over two years later, and this problem still occurs.

Dale:

Did you try it with the current VEDIT 6.15.2?

I tried it just a few minutes ago with your original example file and wasn't able to replicate the problem (in 2006 I was).

After not seeing this problem for some time I am now seeing it in some text files over 500k.
