I have noticed that Vedit does not have the underlined letters that most programs have within menu items to allow you to quickly select the item with a keypress. I only noticed it with version 6.20.1, but when I tried 6.15.4, it was also this way.

Has this always been the case? It's not a big deal, but when I was trying to restore Ctrl-C to plain vanilla (clipboard Copy) in my keyboard config file, I had a hard time figuring out what to use after [MENU] because you cannot tell what the keypresses should be. I figured it out by looking at some old keyboard file. But without that it would have been trial and error to guess that the correct sequence is [MENU]EC

Is this going to be fixed? Just wondering.

Hi Rich,

On my version, what I find works is press the Alt key once, the F in File will be underlined, then use the cursor keys to move thru the menus. The "hotkey" for the functions is underlined in all cases.

Does that work on your version?

This is a Windows configuration option. Sorry but I don't remember where it is in Win XP.
In Win7:

* Navigate to Control Panel -> Ease of Access -> Ease of Access Center
* Click: Change how your keyboard works
* Check: Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys
* Click OK

Ted.

Windows has a bizarre setting which hides underlines on menus (although it does not affect Office) - this can be accidentally invoked by a keyboard combination.

To check this and fix Go to Start> Control Panel> Display Settings> Appearance> Effects (This is for Windows XP, the setting is in a different location for Vista/Win 7)

Uncheck Hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation until I press the Alt key option

I didn't know that either. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I should have thought of pressing the alt key. Duh! As far as always showing (without pressing the alt key), I sure didn't know there was a Windows option for it, which is good to know. Some programs do not honor it - i.e. they just always show the underlines. Good to have options!
