Hello,

I have adapted Christian's CONT-HELP.VDM, which gives context sensitive help for a macro command. (This is an old macro, which has been incorporated into Vedit, via the {Help, Macro at cursor} menu command.) In other words, it sends the word at the cursor position to the Vedit Help macro.

The adapted macro sends the word at the cursor position to a Vedit Search macro. Then this macro searches a sorted by lenght version of Scott Lamberts English.vdf, English vedit dictionary file, for that word.

I tried to upload the macro but could not. I also tried to ftp to
ftp.vedit.com

I did succeed in getting into the /pub directory, but not did not succeed in getting into the /share directory or the upload directory.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

-peter

The FTP upload fo users is disabled since a long time (years) due to
some misuse.

Where is your problem with uploading to Webboard?

When creating a message there are some check-boxes at the top of the
dialog.
One of them is "Attach file or picture".

Simply check that one and write your message.
After clicking on [Post] there will be a new dialog that lets you
upload/attach one or more files.

We already discussed that item in end of 2002 in the Webboard-Howto
conference. (And you had success then.)
Unfortunately some messages seem to got lost there.
(Thanks to my archive I found it anyway :-)
And so I reposted it now.)

Thanks Christian,

Here we go. Testing the upload.

Peter:

It worked, I can see.

A little explanation in case your wondered about the attachments name:

Looking at that name you will notice the added "(1)". That means: There is already a file uploaded with the name you have chosen here.
And in fact: In the "Test Area" conference there it is.
Posted by yourself.

So WebBoard prevents any user from (intentionally or not) overwriting a file.

Hello:

I am uploading an enhanced version of this macro.

Specifically, the new version keeps the cursor at the edit position. Then, it reports the result of the search on the Statline.

I vaguely remember that Ted promised a color change on the Statline. Then, I thought that this would be a nice way to report the result of a search.

Note that with or without enhancements this macro is no substitute for a spell checker.(It just checks the spelling of the word at the cursor position.)

In fact, Ted has a very nice spell checker.

Now an enhancement:

Following up on Ian's recent message,

webboard.vedit.com/read?46700,84

I found a nice English dictionary file in .txt format.
Specifically, I typed Hunspell into Google and downloaded the entire package. Then the file en_US.dic in this package is such a file.

Note that originally I have used Scott Lambert's English.vdf, which is his Vedit Dictionary File. Now I am suggesting to replace the Lambert dictionary file by the Nemeth dictionary file, who is the author of the Hunspell package. In short, use the file en_US.dic.

Finally, I would like to give my impressions of visiting the
Hunspell website. The author thanks and extends the previous excellent work of the authors of Aspell and Ispell.
So, it is upbeat. I also visited the corresponding bug reports on Sourceforge. There I saw the comments of a computer linguist. That is certainly good enough for me.
