A new VEDIT 6.15 dated 28-Jan-06 is on the website.

The VEDIT temp directory now defaults to %TEMP%\VeditTmp.
A reboot will empty the directory.

Those of you who have installed a previous 6.15 should edit your vedit.ini file and add two comment lines after line 28:

After this line:

; VeditTempDir is a directory used for temp files needed during editing.

Add these two lines:

; The default is %TEMP%\VeditTmp; VEDIT auto-creates VeditTmp if needed.
; If desired, can be changed to e.g. c:\vedit\temp

The reason is that if the installation does not find any occurrence of "%TEMP%\VeditTmp", it assumes it is an older vedit.ini and it will change VeditTmpDir to the new default of %TEMP%\VeditTmp; otherwise it will preserve the current setting. This might not matter now, but in the future you will want future installations to preserve your settings.

Note: Anyone updating from 6.13 to 6.15 will get the new vedit.ini with as many setting as possible copied from the old vedit.ini to the new one.

I will now go back to documenting the ftp support.

Ted.

Ted,

I was running through the Config menu on VEDIT (32-Bit) Ver. 6.15.1 01/28/06 to setup the new beta.
(Incidentally I have changed to use %TEMP%\VeditTmp)
I noticed a few issues. I have (hopefully) attached a screen dump of {CONFIG, File handling}

{CONFIG, File handling}

The following entry is truncated, and appears to partially wrap to the next line:-
"Use temp file directory (0=No, 1=All, 4/26=First remote"

The following entry wraps to the next line but still appears truncated:-
"File type (0=CR+LF, 1=LF, 2=CR, ..."

{CONFIG, Search options}
I would have expected the following item (it is mentioned in the help)
"Force new search to start at block begin"

{CONFIG, Printer}
There is no actual problem with this item, the Edit Box is a different size from others & looks untidy.
"Print mode (0=Win, 2=Normal, 274=Safe, 1024=Raw)"

Incidentally I hate playing with dialog boxes, but use the options in Visual Studio to align & make the same size.

Ian:

Thanks. I run my main computer at 125% font size and this changes the
dialog box quite a bit. I keep my laptop at 100% and can now see the
problems.

It appears I decided this option was not needed. It is not implemented.
I have removed it from future on-line help.

It needs a bigger number and therefore is bigger.

Thank you.

Ted.

A new VEDIT 6.15 dated 02/01/2006 is now on the website.

* The crash related to "Word wrap display" is fixed (reported by Dale Cook).

* The slow keyboard response in "Word wrap display" mode is fixed.

* The various cosmetic problems in the {CONFIG} menu are fixed.

* However - some problem related to Rulers are not yet fixed. (Tom Burt is working on that.)

Now that these bugs are fixed, back to ftp doco. :-)

Ted -

Thanks - I use Vedit almost daily to maintain the ~4,000 pages of HTML that I have on the web, and I always appreciate your continuous attention to bugs and their fixes. I don't get that kind of personal service from Bill Gates when I encounter a problem with the Windows OS. :-)

The web page says "dated 01/01/06",
both in the main page and in several places in the download page.

Until I get 6.15.1 finalized, I am not updating the web pages.
Only mentioning it here.

Ted.
