I wonder why Wildfile Wizard is not included in the Search menu?

Never occurred to me, but it sounds like a good idea. Unless there are objections, I will be happy to move it from the {MISC} menu to the {SEARCH} menu.

Hmmm, the status line info of the "Wildfile wizard" is
"Search/replace/process multiple files"

But I think WW is more an universal tool which is also able to do
search/replaces and so much more.

So, personally I don't like to have it in the {Search} menu.

Like Christian, I mainly use wildfile for macros, (but rarely use the Wizard).

I think the grouping with macros natural, but possibly other users would use it more for search/replace.
It wouldn't hurt to have 2 entries for something which is a major feature of Vedit.

I recently added a R/O to wildfile (but did not change the WW). In the WW it would be more natural to have the R/O tick box in the Filespec, so maybe the wildfile macro should have -s & -r switches.

R/O is more global, than related to a single filespec like -s, so this could be confusing. (I can't see any logic in opening one group of files R/O and another not in a single execution.)

It is possible to run macros with Wildfile(wizard), but I think Search/Replace is by the far its most important function. I use that all the time, but I hardly ever use it for running macros.

A new user would probably not even try to look for multi file search from "Misc" menu. "Search" menu is the natural place for it.

For example in CodeWright, the multi file search/replace is in Search menu, and there is even an option to switch from normal search dialog to "Multiple Sources" search.

I agree that novice users are unlikely to find Wildfile-wizard where it is, and that search/replace is its main function.

I am considering a variation of the Wildfile-wizard (or an option within the macro) which can only perform search/replace. Then, {SEARCH, S/R multiple files} could run this variation of the wildfile-wizard.

Eventually, we want to make multiple-file processing an option within the Search/Replace dialog boxes.

Ted.

I made a simplified version of wildfile.vdm long time ago, called wsearch.vdm that only performs search:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/pkl/vedit/misc.htm#wsearch

I have long time planned to do something similar with Wildfile Wizard. However, I have been thinking of possibility to have all the features available e.g. with "Advanced" button. The normal search could be done with just single step (single dialog box), and the more complex options would use more dialog boxes as Wildfile Wizard now does.

That is what I am thinking too.
