I'd suggest to include wildston.vdm into the MISC/MORE MACROS section. It is one of the hidden gold nuggets in Vedit's macro library and deserves much better "marketing". It is useful everywhere, where a single word search with wildfile.vdm is too vague, e.g., for bibliographic searches. In that area, it does basically the same thing as, say DTSEARCH, without the necessity to index your files over and over again.

After a little modification of the documentation, like `enter your default search / proximity strings, if any, into ll. 111-113', everybody should be able to use it effectively.

Fritz

Thanks Fritz,

for pointing this out. Vedit has grown so much that I find it
impossble to follow up programs, even if they look interseting.

Actually, being a mathematician I would like to understand the concept behind wildfile.vdm. Ted told me that this is one of the most complex macros.. and I like to start with the simple ones. So, I hope that using wildston.vdm will help me to get a feeling of the difficulty involved in a "search" macro.

Incidentally, when would you use wildston.vdm instead of
wildfile.vdm?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm afraid it won't: wildstone.vdm is based on wildfile.vdm. So, it is
even more complex.

Nontheless, studying it is both interesting and illuminating.
But i feel it is definitely not the right thing to experiment with, at least
not beyond trivial modifications like setting the default search path
(line 111).

Fritz

Is this "wildstone.vdm" publicly available? If so, where can I find it? I couldn't see it in this forum's macro library nor is it supplied during installation of vpw

Steve:
wildston.vdm was originally made on request (and at expenses) of D. Wildstone, who put in in the "Vedit public domain" at once.

I don't know whether it is still available on webboard or ftp, bit if you can't find it there drop me a note and i will send you a copy.

Well, i attach it here. It would be nice if Ted could consider including it in the user mac library.

Thank you for posting the macro Fritz.

Yes, I will include it in 6.10.1 later today.

BTW - I am making the following changes to 6.10.1; the version # and
release date will not change because these are cosmetic:

1. Change the icons in vpw.exe to "VEDIT" instead of "VEDIT PLUS".
2. Update the on-line help "File selector" topic to include the
new project functions. Also update the "Wildfile" topic.
3. Change the installation to not overwrite an existing compile.cnf
file, but then only copy in a compile.org file.
4. If easy and safe to implement, change the installation option of
"Moving the old version of VEDIT to another directory" to "Copy
the old version of VEDIT to another directory".
5. Double-check that the trial version will uninstall, even if never
registered and long expired.

Ted.

A slightly newer version of VEDIT 6.10.1 is now available for downloading. Since only cosmetic and very minor changes were made, I did not change the version number or date. (The icons in vpw.exe changed, but no code changes.)

The changes are:

1. The original wildston.vdm macro is now included.
2. Changed the icons in vpw.exe to VEDIT" instead of "VEDIT PLUS".
3. Better documentation for the new Wildfile macro functions.
4. Change the installation to not overwrite an existing compile.cnf
file, but then only copy in a compile.org file.
5. Fix - An expired trial version did not uninstall from the Control
Panel. (It did uninstall from the "VEDIT Uninstall" icon.)
6. Included the latest latex.vcs file from Fritz.
7. Cosmetic - spelling errors, etc.

Thank you again for everyone's assistance and feedback.

Ted.

Thanks for adding the wildstone.vdm, I can see useful application for it already.

Just a comment about the remmed comments in the wildston.vdm file line 21

// Default direction/distance is "E 200" ** war: A 15.

While I understand how to input direction and distance I don't understand what the ** war: A 15 means. Is it a typo?

Cheers
Steve

Sorry! I changed the default distance some time and forgot to restore
the original values before posting the macro. The default was (german
"war") A15.
