For the first time in many years I was unable to install Vedit.
The installation crashes saying "c:\vedit\compile\compile.mnu not found".

Installing without Compiler Support works as expected (Win 2k).

As I cannot replicate this, I will have to ignore it unless others have the same problem.

Fritz:

No problems here (Win 2k, German; Normal user, but executing the
installation of VEDIT with Admin rights.)

During the installation the file "compile.mnu" is simply moved from
the "compile" directory into VEDIT's root directory after beeing
unpacked via Cab_Extract(). That should be no problem.

Are you sure that your downloaded files are o.k.?

These are the filesizes on my pc:

26.01.2005 08:15 5.115.904 v64-6131.exe
25.01.2005 23:04 1.919.488 vpw-6131.exe

OK, only five attempts later i seem to have got it :)
The data on that PC were restored from CD after an hard disk crash, and all files were set read only, for what reason ever. After resetting the attribute everything was ok.

Thank you Christian.

Good!

That is a "feature" of Windows (at least of the Explorer).
It doesn't matter how (regarding their attributes) the files
were stored on the CD, after copying them back to the disk they are
set "read-only".

Yes, your mention of "CD" should have reminded me that Explorer sets all files copied from a CD to read-only mode.

Of course, these problems only occur for "gui wimps" that use Explorer. Real men (and women) that use the command prompt "copy" command won't have these problems. ;-))

Hihi, I never use that "Explorer", i'm a TakeCommand addict, the finest program after Vedit and the Unix command line :)

But the boy of the service dpt. who has restored the data probably doesn't even know what a command line is ...

Thanks for the enlightenment!
