In the case someone is wondering why I don't use a Linux editor for
bash scripts (e.g. the wonderful vim):

I do. Sometimes.

But for many of my editing tasks on *IX servers I have constructed a
local (on my PC) editing environment with automatic get/put from/to
the remote servers.
So I have a mirror of almost all important text files including it's
path on my harddisk.

That's
- for convenience
- for offline editing
- for backup purposes
- for beeing able to use VEDIT for *IX files too ;-)
