I went back to my c:\vedit directory and took another look at my .vdm files. To my great surprise Window XP displayed their file type as VEDIT MACRO. I also tried to double click on them in Windows Explorer. Then explorer opened them. In other words, in this respect now everything works like a charm.
Just to be on the safe side, as per your suggestion I also tried,

the computer freezes up and to get out of it, I have to press Alt-Ctrl-Del and terminate Vedit.
Thanks again,
-peter.
