Hello,

I did succeed in displaying the file type of my .vdm files in my c:\vedit directory as "VDM file".
(I do this from memory and this may not be the exact title)

Now, I would like to instruct Windows XP to display it as,
say, "Vedit Macro file".

Thanks,

-peter

So you probaly lost the association between Vedit and .vdm files.

The easiest way to restore it would be from within VEDIT:

Menu {Config, Associate file types}

Thanks Christian,

I just tried and it did not work for me. Here are the details:

When I type,

Menu {Config, Associate file types}

a popup window opens. It says, Edit Registry, OK ?

When I click on the OK nothing ha pens, finally another popup window opens saying Edit file .. OK and the program freezes.

I wonder shall I reinstall Vedit, or may be this is an Antivirus issue?

It seemed to me that this was strictly a cosmetic issue. Vedit seems to work like a charm.

Thanks again,

-peter.

Did you have Administrator rights when you did that?
You need to have...

Reinstallation would call the same macro to associate the filetypes.

But what happens when you double click on a .vdm file in Explorer?
Does VEDIT open with that macro file?
Than it may be only a "cosmetic" issue and you could fix it in Explorer (Tools - Options ...)
Or does Windows ask what to do with that file?
Than you have lost the association as described earlier.

Thanks Christian,

I went back to my c:\vedit directory and took another look at my .vdm files. To my great surprise Window XP displayed their file type as VEDIT MACRO. I also tried to double click on them in Windows Explorer. Then explorer opened them. In other words, in this respect now everything works like a charm.

Just to be on the safe side, as per your suggestion I also tried,

> Menu {Config, Associate file types}

To my surprise here I get the old error message.In fact,
the computer freezes up and to get out of it, I have to press Alt-Ctrl-Del and terminate Vedit.

Thanks again,

-peter.

Good. That's the important part.

Not so good.
I don't have another idea here, sorry.
